Gods and Godesses
The Hunter - Sartholas is the god of hunting, vengeance, and weapon smithing. His symbol is that of a bloody arrow piercing an eye. Sartholas is renowned for his patience as well as the swiftness of retribution against those who have wronged him or his followers in some way. Sartholas is called upon by those who craft weapons for the purpose of hunting, or those seeking vengeance.
The Peacebearer - Gloriann is the matron deity of peace, fertility and protection. Her symbol is that of a pure white round shield with cupped hands emblazoned upon it. Gloriann has three distinct aspects; the shield maiden, the harvest mother, and the peacebearer. Gloriann adopted the portfolio of peace from Moraj, the Peacebringer, when he was destroyed in the cataclysm at the end of the god wars. Gloriann is called upon by many people of different origins for different reasons. From humble farmers asking her to aid their crops, to elven sword maidens to protect them in battle.
The Prince - Theindal is the god of art, beauty, and vanity. His symbol is that of a perfect blood red rose studded with thorns. Theindal is a fickle god, prone to fits of rage, jealousy, and dangerous boredom. It is said he was responsible for cursing the Ksaravi with the forms of rats due to a momentary need for amusement. Theindal rewards those who are beautiful, but curses those who dare to believe themselves on par with himself. To call upon Theindal is a careful matter, much like handling a rose.
The Valorous - Vothdar is the god of strength, valor, and ancestry. His symbol is a mountain peak with an eye at the top looking down. Vothdar has been called upon by warriors in almost every battle to ever occur. To die in his name performing deeds of great heroism promises an afterlife in the Halls of Kortella, the warrior's rest. Here they will drink, fight, and have their tales of heroism recounted for all time. Calling upon Vothdar is not to be done lightly, however, for once you have called his attention, you every action will be judged. Should Vothdar be called upon to witness unworthy acts, then he will turn his back upon the coward who called him. Vothdar is opposed directly against Ghalnn, the god of slaughter.
The Strategist - Vaelion is the patron deity of strategists, philosophers, and scholars. His symbol is an open book with stars and constellations drawn upon the pages. Vaelion offers insight and clarity to those who pursue knowledge. He is opposed to Kaerellun The Princess of Deceit, for she seeks to keep knowledge as secrets, while he aims to reveal them. Vaelion is called upon by military commanders, sorcerers and even thieves to reveal knowledge and secrets to them; though the later often walk on a razors edge when it comes time for them to request that Kaerellun hide their own secrets well.
The Prince of Thieves - Finch is the god of thievery, mischief, and concealment. His symbol is a laughing mask which can range from looking jovial to sinister, depending on the worshiper's motives. Finch is prayed to by thieves of all origins, from pranksters and scouts to assassins and starving orphans. Worshipers of Finch know to watch their back, for there is always a chance that the god of mischief will turn the tables against them for his own amusement. Finch is opposed by Valus, the goddess of judgment, and the demi-god Fautri who is ever seeking to catch the prince of thieves red-handed.
The Skilled - Alurad is the patron god of craftsmen, trade, politics and order. His symbol is an anvil. Alurad seeks to bring order to the gods and seeks to sit at the head of the pantheon in order to ensure that all is well. He has support from Gloriann and Valus, but the evil deities under Kaerellun almost entirely oppose this movement. Alurad is prayed to by crafters, merchants, and nobles who seek his skill in all that they do. As a deity he is quite neutral in the affairs of the gods, always seek to broker a sensible deal between the forces of good and evil. He is directly opposed by both Kaerellun and Sihari.
The Dark Lady of the Sea - Sihari is the goddess of the sea, chaos, and storms. Her symbol is a swirling whirlpool or a mass of tentacles, not unlike a kraken. Sihari is the unbridled beauty and fury of the ocean. She can be calm one moment and violent the next. Sailors offer gifts to Sihari to secure safe travel, but sometimes Sihari deems that only their ship and their souls are enough to satisfy her. Many sea faring monsters pay homage to Sihari, and the sirens, sea hags and sea lords are all her minions. Sea zombies are those unfortunate souls who disrespected Sihari at sea and have been cursed to wander the shores and depths in eternal torment. Sihari is directly opposed to Alurad.
The Princess of Deceit - Kaerellun is the matron goddess of deceit, secrets, intrigue, and diplomats. Her symbol is a hand with puppet strings. Kaerellun is worshiped by those who wish to deceive, keep secrets, or manipulate others into doing their bidding. While evil, her methods are useful to diplomats for good, or so they say. Kaerellun took over as head of the pantheon of evil when Haelifur divided his power amongst his dragon children. Kaerellun is simultaneously an enemy and ally to almost every other deity. Her web of lies and secrets is so complex that it is said she has trapped herself. Kaerellun and Vaelion are engaged in a rivalry. Kaerellun keeps secrets, while Vaelion reveals them.
The Judge - Valus is the matron goddess of justice, law, and punishment. Her symbol is the silhouette of a robed woman holding scales in one hand and a hammer in the other. Many paladins worship Valus for she is the law giver of the gods and her word is final. Judges and nobles look to Valus for guidance in making tough decisions. Valus is an ally of Alurad but does not oppose the other gods, for she respects their place in the pantheon, but their transgressions against the law never go unpunished. Of all the gods, she is most disappointed by Finch, but Theindal's outrageous transgressions are nearly as legendary.
The Brilliant - Vol Anari is the god of the sun, light, fire, and purity. His symbol is a blazing sun. Vol Anari is the brother of Vol Tuniel, the maiden of the moon. When Vol Tuniel fell in battle against Kheolim during the God Wars, Vol Anari was overcome with grief and anger. Since that time Vol Anari and his followers have steadily become more zealous in their pursuit of purity. Some sects of Vol Anari worshipers have taken to ritual scarification in order to prove their faith to the god, while others have taken more extreme measures when dealing with evil doers, punishing any evil act with death by fire. In Qalia the people say prayers to Vol Anari to beg salvation from his burning rays, while on Kojan the people pray to the rising sun as a dawn of new possibilities. Vol Anari is directly opposed to the entire evil pantheon, though he has begun to turn his attention to the other good deities as well.
The Divided One - The Sisters are a duality, two sides of a single coin, and that coin is death. The sisters are also referred to by two names, Mara and Caia. Together their symbol is a black skull adorned with a golden burial wreath.
The Fetid Reaper - Mara is the goddess of murder, necromancy, and sorrow. Her symbol is a black skull. Mara is revered by death cultists, necromancers, and those who wish to avoid her. She is the aspect of painful death and restless spirits. Necromancers pray to her to gain power over the dead.
The Shepherd - Caia is the goddess of natural death, ancestors and peace. Her symbol is a golden burial wreath. Caia is revered by those who wish their dead to be watched over or those seeking to reach out to their ancestors. Those who Caia is asked to watch over are protected from Mara.
The Caller of War - Ghalnn is the god of battle, carnage, slaughter, and bloodshed. Ghalnn's symbol is a double headed axe that can be crudely drawn as a line with two triangle joined at the center point or elaborate symbols that function as the weapon they represent. Ghalnn values only the strong and bathes in the blood of the weak. His followers take the heads of their foes and present them to Ghalnn as offerings. He is a savage deity who is brutal and unforgiving. Ghalnn desires only one thing, for there to be continuous eternal battle. He grants his followers strength in order to carry them into war, but does not care if they fall in battle, for it means more blood spilled and more skulls heaped in his honor. Ghalnn is known by many names, all of them suitably macbre; The Gorefiend, The Skull Harvester, The Butcher, The Black Handed, The Headsman, Foereaper, to name a few.
The Dragon - Haelifur was the god of tyranny, ambition, and dragonkind. His symbol is a black dragon rampant upon a red field. Haelifur is the father of not only dragons, but also the dark elves. The purity of one's blood in dark elf society is perhaps the most important aspect of your person, differentiating slave from sovereign. Haelifur destroyed himself and divided his power into his dragon children long before the cataclysm when a number of the gods allied against him behind the god Moraj, the peacebringer, who sought to end his reign of tyranny once and for all. Since the gods can influence the affairs of mortals only very slightly, Moraj was unable to destroy his arch-enemy as he had effectively become mortal himself.
The Maiden - Vol Tuniel is the goddess of the moon, and the matron deity of the fair skinned elves. Her symbol is a full moon framing a beautiful pale woman's face. Vol Tuniel is the sister of Vol Anari, the sun god. Vol Tuniel was responsible for the division of the high and wood elves from the master dark elven race. For this transgression upon his children, Haelifur cursed the high and wood elves with the same pale skin as their goddess to mark them as traitors to the true blooded dark elves. When Moraj rallied the gods to fight Haelufir, it was Vol Tuniel who first joined him with bow in hand. During the god war, Vol Tuniel was all but destroyed when Kheolim was destroyed. For almost a thousand years she has dwindled between life and death, a dying goddess for a dying race.
The Peacebringer The Dead One - Moraj was the patron god of peace, harmony, and civilization. His symbol was two hands joined and bound with laurels. Moraj was the head of the good pantheon of deities and rallied the gods against Haelifur in an effort to destroy him. Though Haelifur escaped into the mortal bodies of his dragon children, Moraj was content with the victory and turned his attention unto Kaerellun, Haelufir's successor. When the god war began, Moraj was the first to oppose Kheolim, the Unifier. Moraj rallied the other deities behind himself and fought Kheolim to a standstill. In the death struggle with Moraj, both gods were destroyed. The good pantheon is still without a leader, though Gloriann has taken up Moraj's portfolio of peace. It is said that the cataclysm was the result of Moraj, the god of peace, being destroyed.
The Unifier - Kheolim was an alien god who attempted to unify all the gods within himself, and very nearly succeeded. If not for the efforts of Moraj and the other gods, Kheolim would have destroyed all of Telon. When Kheolim was destroyed, so too was Moraj, the peacebringer. The result was the cataclysm which destroyed vast portions of Telon, sinking half of Thestra beneath the ocean and pulverizing large swaths of the continent of Kojan. Kheolim's symbol was a perfect circle.
